I just want to say I am so loving Games Sessions right now. We’re about 4 months into it. We have a great venue at The Holcolmbe Tap. They don’t normally open until 12 but on a Thursday Morning they open at 10 so Games Sessions can happen.
Today, we had three tables with different games:
Cribbage – I learnt Cribbage from a fellow traveller whilst in Peru in 2008. I rarely play it these days so it’s good to have people to play it with at Games Sessions.
Ticket To Ride (Europe): I absolutely LOVE this game. One of the guys who comes to Games Sessions brought it along and now we have our own copy! I would’ve said that I wasn’t really into trains before I played this game but now, I totally am. It’s a great game and I find myself getting more into it and strategic the more times I play it. And more knowledgeable about how the different towns in Europe link up. Bonus!
Dixit: My 5 year old discovered this game today. It’s just brilliant! I’ve played it before. Years ago. Some good friends I’ve not seen for some time shared it with us; civilised nights in before we had kids. It’s a great game!
I’m really liking the vibe of games morning. We have a core group of people who come regularly. They’ll generally come if they can make it. And every now and again someone new will come and it’s always nice to meet new people.
People come for all kinds of different reasons but mostly it’s to get out the house and meet some nice people and maybe play a game or two.
Perhaps it’s games they know like Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble or Chess or maybe one that they’ve not played before like Taboo or Mahjong.
So a huge thank you to Rob from Rammy Men for making this vision happen. I asked him one day if he would be interested in getting together a group of people who are interested in playing board games and he said we could give it a go.
He found an awesome venue The Holcombe Tap, printed of hundreds of flyers, hand delivered them around Ramsbottom by foot, got us on the radio.
Another huge thank you to Bill and Will and all staff at the Holcombe Tap. You are brilliant hosts. It’s a gorgeous venue. Nice vibe.
And to all the wonderful people who’ve been coming along. I really look forward to Thursday mornings.
Sorry to get all mushy on ya but I really like Games Sessions!
